For patients who experience dental anxiety or require more complex procedures, intravenous (IV) sedation offers a safe and effective way to ensure a calm and comfortable experience.
At Martock Dental Practice, we provide IV sedation under the care of the very experienced Dr Ryan Hughes along with specially trained sedation nurses, helping you feel relaxed while receiving the dental treatment you need.
We offer IV sedation for implants and complex oral surgery treatments. We do not currently offer IV sedation for restorative treatment, however, our Dentist, Dr Terri Reed, can offer inhalation sedation.
If you require IV sedation for restorative treatment, we will happily arrange a referral for you.

What is IV Sedation?
IV sedation involves administering a sedative directly into the bloodstream through a small cannula in your arm or hand.
This method induces a deeply relaxed state, often causing partial or full memory loss of the procedure. While you remain conscious and able to respond to instructions you will feel completely at ease throughout the treatment.
What to Expect During Your Appointment
- Pre-Sedation Assessment: We’ll review your medical history and ensure IV sedation is a suitable option for you.
- Sedation Process: A small cannula is placed in your hand or arm, through which the sedative is administered.
- Treatment: You will remain deeply relaxed and comfortable while we carry out your dental procedure.
- Recovery: IV sedation takes longer to wear off than inhalation sedation, so you will need a responsible adult to escort you home and rest for the remainder of the day.
